Virtual Reality Resources and Initiatives
Beginning in 1998 with the acquisition of an Immersadesk R2, and continuing
through our current initiatives in the implementation of lower cost, commodity
based VR systems and software, the Visualization Group has been providing test
bed facilities and staff support for investigations by faculty and students
into the application of emerging VR systems, software and techniques within the
arts, sciences and engineering. Past VR support activities of the group have
included focused teamwork with faculty on particular research problems,
providing facilities for use in faculty research or independent study by
undergraduate or graduate students, and the development of open access VR
laboratories for use in teaching and research. The Visualization Group welcomes
committed faculty partnerships in the mutual pursuit of the advancement of
visualization and VR development at Penn State. VR facilities can be scheduled
by faculty from any any academic department of the university.
