LION-XM PC Cluster

LION-XM is a PC Cluster run by the High Performance Computing Group of Penn State's Academic Services and Emerging Technologies (ASET) in partnership with the following Penn State professors:

LION-XM consists of the following hardware:

  • Dual 3.06 GHz Intel P4 Processors
  • 4 GB of ECC RAM
168 Compute Nodes
  • Dell 1750 1U Rackmount Boxes
  • Dual 3.06 GHz Intel Xeon Processors or Dual 3.2 Ghz Intel Xeon Processors
  • 4 GB of ECC RAM
  • 36 GB of SCSI disk

LION-XM Software

LION-XM runs the GNU/Linux operating system. A list of installed software packages can be found on the software page. Other packages can be installed upon request.

Obtaining an Account

To obtain an account on LION-XM you first need to be sure that you have a Penn State Access Account. If you do not, you will need to work with the ITS Accounts Services group to get one.

If you have a Penn State Access Account already, send an email to Jason Holmes at jholmes@psu.edu requesting your LION-XM account. Please be sure to include your Penn State Access Account userid and any special requests you may have.

Please refer to the LION-XM User's Guide for more information on accessing LION-XM and compiling and running applications on it.

LION-XM Performance

Benchmarking is an on-going process. Results so far are very encouraging.
