LION-XL PC Cluster
LION-XL is a PC Cluster run by the High Performance Computing Group of Penn State's Academic Services and Emerging Technologies (ASET) in partnership with the following Penn State professors:
- Dr. James B. Anderson, Evan Pugh Professor of Chemistry
- Dr. Long-Qing Chen, Professor Materials Science and Engineering
- Dr. Qiang Du, Professor of Mathematics
- Dr. Barbara J. Garrison, Shapiro Professor of Chemistry
- Dr. Daniel Haworth, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering
- Dr. Zi-Kui Liu, Associate Professor of Materials Science and Engineering
- Dr. Anton Nekrutenko, Assistant Professor Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
- Dr. Padma Raghavan, Associate Professor Computer Science and Engineering
- Dr. Jorge Sofo, Director of the Materials Simulation Center

LION-XL consists of the following hardware:
One login node
- Dell 2650 2U Rackmount Box
- Dual 2.4 Ghz Intel P4 Processors
- 4 GB of ECC RAM
One hundred and twenty-eight compute nodes
- Dell 2650 2U Rackmount Boxes
- Dual 2.4 Ghz Intel P4 Processors
- 4 GB of ECC RAM
- 36 GB of SCSI disk
- Quadrics high-speed interconnect

LION-XL Software

LION-XL runs the GNU/Linux operating system. A list of installed software packages can be found on the
software page.
Other packages can be installed upon request.

Obtaining an Account
To obtain an account on LION-XL you first need to be sure
that you have a Penn State Access Account. If you do not, you will need
to work with the ITS Accounts
Services group to get one.
If you have a Penn State Access Account already, send an email to Jason
Holmes at jholmes@psu.edu requesting your LION-XL account. Please be sure
to include your Penn State Access Account userid and any special requests
you may have.

Benchmarking is an on-going process. Results so far are very encouraging.
